Die wichtigsten geschichtlichen Ereignisse:

1703 - Janitscharen Aufstand 

1754 - Beginn der osmanischen Barockperiode

1826 - Versuche der osmanischen Zentralverwaltung, das unter dem Druck der europäisch-

          en Mächte stehende Reich durch Reformen zu stabilisieren.

1836 - Bau der ersten Brücke über das goldene Horn

1875 - Die erste Untergrundbahn der Stadt, die Tünel-Bahn geht in Betrieb.

1894 - Schweres Erdbeben

1919-1932 Untergang des osmanischen Reichs. Belagerung von Alliierten gegen Ende des 

                Ersten Weltkriegs. Türkischer Befreiungskrieg bis 1922 unter der Führung von 

                Mustafa Kemal Atatürk gewann das Land seine Unabhängigkeit. Im Jahre 1923

                wurde die Republik ausgerufen und Ankara zur Hauptstadt ernannt. Zahlreiche 

                Reformen folgten.

1935 - Umwandlung der Hagia Sophia in ein Museum.

1945 - Istanbuls Einwohnerzahl beträgt über 1 Million, illegale Stadtrandsiedlungen durch 

          Einwanderer entstehen.

1973 - Eröffnung der ersten Bosporusbrücke. Istanbul wird zu einer Metropole. Dies hat

          auch seine Schattenseiten: Überbevölkerung und eine unzureichende Infrastruktur

          prägen das Bild.

1988 - Eröffnung der zweiten Bosporusbrücke.

2000 - Eröffnung der ersten modernen Untergrundbahn.

2010 - Istanbul ist Kulturhauptstadt.

2012 - Istanbul ist internationale Sporthauptstadt.

2013 - Proteste aufgrund der bevorstehenden Rodung des Gezi-Parks in Taksim. Die 

          Polizei geht mit alle härte gegen die Demonstranten vor. Landes- und weltweite 

          Proteste folgen.

The most important historic events: 

1703 - Jelali revolts

1754 - Beginning of the ottoman Baroque period.

1826 - Attempts of the ottoman head office, to stabilize the from the european mights

          pressured empire with reforms.

1836 - Construction of the first bridge across the Golden Horn.

1875 - Istanbul´s first subway  the Tünel-Railroad goes into operation.

1894- Fatal earthquake.

1919-1932 Downfall of the ottomann empire. Besiegement of the allies at the end of 

                World War I. Turkish liberation war until 1922 under the leadership of

                Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The country gains it´s independence and exclaimed

                as republic in 1923. Ankara becomes Turkey´s capital city. Numerous reforms

                followed. 

1935 - The Hagia Sophia is changed into a museum.

1945 - Istanbul´s population amounts to more than 1 million. Illegal city limit dictricts 

          develope by immigrants.

1973- Opening of the first Bosphorus bridge. Istanbul becomes a megacity. That got it´s

         shady sides: overpopulation and bad infrastructure influence the scene.

1988 - Opening of the second Bosphorus bridge.

2000 - Opening of the first modern subway.

2010 - Istanbul is cultural capital.

2012 - Istanbul is international sports capital.

2013 - Protests caused by the upcoming clearing of the Gezi-Park in Taksim. The Police

          acts against the protestants with all might and main. Nationwide and worldwide 

          protests are following.
