Die Hagia Sophia oder Sophienkirche ist eine ehemalige byzantinische Kirche, spätere Moschee und heutiges Museum) in Eminönü, einem Stadtteil im europäischen Teil Istanbuls.

Die Hagia Sophia, das letzte große Bauwerk der Spätantike, war die Hauptkirche des Byzantinischen Reiches und religiöser Mittelpunkt der Orthodoxie und ist heute ein Wahrzeichen Istanbuls.

Besuchszeiten:  Sommer (15. April - 01. Oktober) 09:00-19:00 Uhr

                         Winter   (01. Oktober - 15. April) 09:00-17:00 Uhr

Die Hagia Sophia ist auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert. Sie ist ein wunderschönes Gebäude, im Inneren finden Austellungen statt. Vor der Hagia Sophia befindet sich ein großer Brunnen der mit Mosaiken besetzt ist und Bänke um eine kleine Pause einzulegen.

Gleich gegenüber ist die Sultanahmet Camii (Die Blaue Moschee) und in unmittelbarer Nähe der Topkapı Sarayı (Topkapi Palast).

The Hagia Sophia (Aya Sofya) is an ex-byzantine church, mosque and a museum nowadays.

It´s located in Eminönü, a district in the european part of Istanbul. 

The Hagia Sophia, the last major building of the late antiquity, was the main church of the byzantine empire and religious center of the orthodoxy. Now it´s one of Istanbul´s most famous landmarks.

Entry Charge: 25 TL (ca. 12$, 8£)

Visiting hours:  Summer (15 April - 01 Oktober) 9am - 7pm

                        Winter   (01 Oktober - 15 April) 9am - 5pm

The Hagia Sophia is worth visiting. It´s a beautiful building and there are exhibitions inside. In front of the Hagia Sophia is a fountain full of mosaics and benches to take a rest. The Sultanahmet Camii (Blue Mosque) is right next to it and the Topkapı Sarayı (Topkapi Palace) is nearby.
